FamousFood.us: Find the restaurants featured on your favourite TV shows

As some of you may already know, I have recently launched a new website named FamousFood.us that allows you to quickly find restaurants featured on TV shows such as Best Thing I Ever Ate, Diners Drive-Ins and Dives, Throwdown with Bobby Flay, etc.. as well as Michellin guide rated restaurants. I figure it finally time for me to write a blog post explaining the site and what I hope to do with it.

The idea for the site came from my summer road trip to Seattle. Since Nithya and I were driving up there with no specific plans we decided that we wanted to try out as many of the Best Thing I Ever Ate restaurants as we could using my existing map as a guide.… Read the rest

Map of Throwdown with Bobby Flay competitors

One of my favourite food network shows is Throwdown with Bobby Flay where he goes around challenging various chefs to a cook-off with their signature dish. Seeing the show really makes me want to go and try out some of the dishes but unfortunately there is no single list of all the restaurants and their locations. Seeing that my last mashup map of the Dinners, Drive-Ins and Dives locations is the most popular page on my blog, I decided to put together a new mashup with the locations of all the Throwdown restaurants.

Google Earth map of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives

Nithya and I have been big fans of the Diners, Drive-ins and Dives show hosted by Guy Fieri on the Food Network. We love the fact that it travels the country looking for the small anonymous restaurants that serve great food without emptying your wallet.

Recipe Exchange

Nithya and I just hosted a very delicious event – the very first YRB Recipe Exchange. The idea for the exchange came from our February trip to Tahoe when we found that a good number of the people at the lab are foodies. Since we all cook very different kinds of food, we decided to have a recipe exchange where we would be able to not only eat various dishes but also learn how they were prepared.
